Other Beings: Four Painters Bringing Roughly 20 Unique Faces

Faces are generally divided between the familiar and the strange, One decides that “I know" or “I do not know” this particular combination of humanoid features. These four artists dodge that binary. They manifest the desire to enlarge a particular face into the realm of the mythic, and allow for a drifting into the unreal. Two, Butler and Ortiz start from faces they know evolving them into manifestations of other worldly realms, While Esber and Barrett conversely create mythic beings from broadcloth crafting memorable fictive entities These portraits are all unreal, mythically large and simultaneously truer than true.

Bill Arning Exhibitions is excited to announce that Gerardo Rosales will be featured in the 2024 NADA House exhibition on Governors Island, opening on September 3 and running through October 27. This collaborative show, the sixth edition of NADA House, includes twenty-one artists from seventeen galleries, utilizing the unique setting of a nineteenth-century military residence.
